Jonathan Sites finished his Senior year football season at Beech High school in 2009 and was ranked in the top 1% among high school football linebackers. He also ended the year as the #6 wingback in the nation in high school football.

Jonathan led his team to the Tennessee 5A State Championship, as the Buccaneers defied the odds week after week. Nothing is impossible when God is honored on and off the playing field. It truly is an amazing story, especially considering that the context is a large public high school that was just moved from 4A to 5A, and had to play six 6A teams during the dream season. They only had 3 seniors that had played the year before.
 Jonathan’s favorite
 Bible verse:

 “I can do all things
 through Christ who
 gives me strength.”

 Philippians 4:13

After talking with over 80 universities that were interested in Jonathan, he narrowed his choices down to a handful of schools that were from D1, D1AA, and D2 divisions of the NCAA.

Jonathan made the decision to commit to Carson-Newman University, a D2 powerhouse located in Jefferson City, Tennessee (30 minutes east of Knoxville). Coach Ken Sparks has been the head coach of the Eagles for over 30 years. In his first 3 decades he has guided the Eagles to an overall record of 387-73-2 (.802%), making him the 3rd most winning active college coach in all levels. During that time, Carson-Newman has gone to the playoffs 22 times, winning 5 national championships and finishing second four times. The Eagles have been to the NCAA Division 2 Playoffs in 11 of the last 17 seasons and were national runner-ups in 1996, 1998, and 1999. In South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play, Carson-Newman has won 21 of the past 29 crowns.
Over 84 players have gone on to play professional football. Coach Ken Sparks was recently President of the American Football Coaches Association, and has been inducted into the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.

The Eagles football program is built on Christian principles. The coaching staff strive to develop the whole person -- educationally, socially, athletically, and spiritually.

We are proud that Jonathan has made such a great choice!

UPDATE:  During Jonathan’s freshman season he started the very first game on national television and recorded 7 tackles during the game.  He played as an outside linebacker and was active in every quarter of the season, recording 33 tackles total in 10 games.  During his sophomore season, Jonathan was elected by his teammates and the coaching staff as one of the 15 players on the Leadership Team (similar to team captains).  He now has a total of 61 tackles for his first two years, and is excited about the upcoming Spring camp where he will be moving into a starting role as a junior.  We are proud of Jonathan’s accomplishments!  GO EAGLES!!
